Rosie looked over at her cousin, squinting her eyes so as not to get murky lake water in them. "All the time," she answered, her voice rather distant as she looked up at the clear sky above, ever star visible and perfect. "If we were still kids, we wouldn't be stuck in this bloody war." Rosie did miss it. She missed the carelessness, the recklessness, even the naive nature she'd had. Then, she hadn't had to worry that all her friends could be killed in a matter of seconds, that the war wasn't going to end, that the final battle between the New Order and the Death Eaters, could possibly kill of herself and ever one of the ones that she held dear to her.
Nikita closed her eyes, and breathed in the cold night air once more. She felt like she had a frog in her throat. She needed to let Rosie know something. She decided that now would be a good time to tell her. She started her sentence very carefully, "Rosie, you know we have our differences right? Different friends... different beliefs... and different ways of handling things. i just wanted to let you know, that I would never hurt you purposely. I can promise you that, but I can't promise you... that...that I won't hurt your friends. I know that you'll probably hate me for saying that, but you'll just know that I'll never hurt you. I needed to get that off of my chest." Nikita breathed out, and hoped for the best.
Rosie nodded slowly for a moment after listening to Nikita's words. She couldn't exactly blame the girl. After all, she was part of the DE. It was her job to hurt the New Order members, most of which were Rosie's friends. "Thanks," she answered, her voice hardly above a whisper, "And I promise to never hurt you. And please, if you can manage it, I'd appreciate if you didn't do any of them in. I dunno if I could still be friends with you if you did."
Nikita raised her eyebrow, at Rosie's last sentence. 'Friends? Well, I suppose you could call us that. Not very good ones though...'Nikita thought to herself. "Still, no promises on the friends thing..." Nikita trailed off, getting distracted by something in the water... "Rosie? What lives in this Lake exactly?" Nikita whispered. Nikita wasn't scared, but she was curious. She wanted to know what it was, and if it would hurt them. She squinted her eyes to try to look for the moving thing again.
Rosie felt a shiver go up her spine as something whisked past her, a cold tentacle brushing against her skin. Nervously, she looked over at her cousin. "A Giant Squid," she answered, pausing before continuing, "Merpeople, plenty of fish, and occasionally a ghost by the name of Moaning Mertle."
Nikita took in a breath, when she heard about the Giant Squid. Yes, she knew what was in the lake, but she wanted to make sure. Nikita locked her gaze with Rosie, and said slowly, "What do you think is swimming around us?" Nikita watched as the water surrounding them moved.
Rosie glanced at her cousin, a tinge of fear in her eyes as the tentacle again brushed against her arm. It was a rather slimy appendage, and felt as though it'd been dragged through a pool of muck before being thrown in the lake. "Probably the Giant Squid," Rosie answered, trying to keep the level of terror in her voice to a minimum. Neither of the two of them had brought their wands into the lake, and neither had superhuman strength or any super power that could fight off a squid the size of a car. So they were pretty much doomed.
Nikita froze, but had to keep her arms moving to keep her head above the water. She looked at Rosie, fear in her eyes. What were they going to do? They wouldn't be able to make it back to shore in time, before the creature got them. They also couldn't use any spells on it, sense their wands weren't with them. "Well, you got any ideas?" Nikita swallowed the lump in her throat, and looked around to try to find the creature. 'Well, shit! I was SO not planning for this!!' Nikita thought to herself aggravatingly.
Nikita breathed in heavily, and couldn't think of anything whatsoever. Then a plan struck her. "Rosie, can you swim fast? If so, then I'm going to have to distract the Squid, and then you're going to need to swim as fast as you can back to shore. Grab your wand, and then try to think of a spell to save my ass. I'd rather not die tonight, if you know what I mean." Nikita told Rosie her plan as quickly as possible, trying to be encouraging.
"I'm going to be swimming the opposite way from you, and the squid will most likely follow me, if I go a second or two before you start swimming to shore. Can you do that?" Nikita asked her last sentence with hopefulness. That was the only thing they could possibly do, unless Rosie had a better idea. Nikita breathed in the air, and hoped to hear what she wanted out of Rosie's mouth.
