The Basics
Name: October Claire Hemingway (Tobie)
Age: Sixteen
Year: Sixth
Blood: Pure
House: Slytherin
I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.
Appearance
Celebrity: Hanna Beth Merjos
Looks:
October is a thin and taller girl who stands at five foot five and weighs about 115 pounds. Ever since she was a little girl her parents used to be on her case about her weight, but she never really paid them any mind. As she grew older, however, her almost skeletal form became a bit fuller, making her look like a normal human being rather than a walking stick. Her brother Rowen would always make the comment, ”You’re so skinny that if you turned sideways, you’d disappear!” but now he has ceased to tease her because along with that thin frame she also developed toned arm and leg muscles which she used to occasionally kick or punch him.
In addition to her figure, October also has very angular features; high cheekbones, a pointed nose and a squared face. She and her mother look very much alike because of this, though her mother is blonde and she is a brunette. Another feature she and her mother share is the porcelain-colored skin. She was never able to tan as a child, even though her brother did easily. But, she never minded. She was more of a winter person, anyway. Summer means three things in her mind; hot, sticky and sweaty.
Long, beautiful dark chocolate-colored hair adorns October’s head. She has kept it long as long as she can remember. Her hair also has a natural wave to it, which sometimes she detests, other times she tolerates. It reaches her mid-back and will only be pulled up at night before she goes to bed or if she’s on a broomstick. She likes her hair down, enough said. She also hates if anyone toys with it, so heed her warning. DO NOT by any means touch October’s head unless you want to be witness to her mean right-hook.
Ah, now I’ve saved the best for last. The best feature on October by far is her blue-gray eyes. Don’t believe me? Take a gander at ‘em! Well, usually they’re blue. At times she will turn them brown, though it isn’t at will. Rumor has it that she inherited a bit of her grandfather’s metamorphagous powers, though it’s very slight and only affects her eyes.
Personality
Likes (At least 5):
[x] Quidditch:
October has been in love with the sport since she was able to ride a broom. She and her twin brother, Rowen, have scrimmaged dozens of times and are always in competition with each other to see who is better. She loves the Beater position, just because she enjoys unleashing her rage on unsuspecting Bludgers (And occasionally opponents…).
[x] Autumn:
Cliché, right? Well, nonetheless, October’s favorite time of the year is Autumn. Seeing the leaves change color as nature begins to slow down is quite peaceful. Plus, it’s also the time when she returns to Hogwarts.
[x] Honeydukes:
Who said this sour girl can’t be sweet? Tobie has a sweet tooth, and she lets everyone know it. Whenever she goes to Hogsmede, Honeydukes is the first place she goes. She especially loves Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans, and has tried every flavor at least once. She always has a stash of them in her room and would kill you if you took one without asking.
[x] Dressing Up:
October enjoys dressing up and making sure she looks extra nice for parties and events. It makes her feel like a princess.
[x] The DE:
The DE has interested October and she intends on joining.
Dislikes:
[x]Frogs:
She finds them revolting. They’re slimy, covered in pond sludge and make weird noises. She usually screeches and screams if she sees one and would be the first to stomp on the little vermin.
[x]The Color Yellow:
It’s just so bright…not that she’s against being cheery and such, but yellow is a bit too bright and is just an annoying, obnoxious color. Sorry, Hufflepuffs.
[x]Do-Gooders:
Doing a good thing is ok…as long as you’re not doing it constantly. People who are always sticking their necks out there for others are going to be sorry one day.
[x]Crying Girls:
What happened to being tough, girls? Honestly, she can’t tolerate it when girls cry…well, she can understand if it’s serious, but if it’s over a guy or a poor grade they need to grow up.
[x]Cocky Guys:
Arrogant, cocky guys are just so annoying. They’re almost as bad as crying girls or do-gooders. You’re great at Quidditch? That’s nice. You have a rockin’ body? Cool. Don’t flaunt it; we all know it already.
Strengths:
[+] Nonverbal Spells:
Her father was amazing at these spells and it seems to be genetic, seeing as her brother Rowen exceeds in them as well. Maybe it’s a Slytherin thing? Who knows? At any rate, it’s a useful strength during duels.
[+] Lying:
Maybe it’s a good thing, maybe it isn’t. October doesn’t really care, and she doesn’t think it’s immoral either. Her philosophy is, “It isn’t a lie unless you’re caught.”
[+]Charismatic:
Tobie is able to make friends of people easily (Whether for good intentions or not.). She is very charismatic, and because she is friendly and likeable people have a hard time talking bad about her. She does, however, have quite the mean streak…
[+]Keeping Secrets:
You have a crush on him? Alright, your secret’s safe with her. October, unlike many girls her age, can keep a secret. Not that she wouldn’t mind telling people, it’s just that she doesn’t. She’ll build up your trust, and then she can use you however she pleases.
[+]Noticing Queer Things:
If you’re lying, or if you’re covering something up, Tobie can tell. You can’t mislead her; she catches on much too quickly.
Weaknesses:
[+/-] Trust Issues:
You may be able to trust Tobie, but she’ll never trust you completely. It’s just an insecurity thing; perhaps it’s a strength. She’s careful about how much of her day she reveals, and never opens up.
[-] Her brother:
She has a soft spot for Rowen, because he’s her twin. Don’t you dare hurt him or do anything against him, otherwise October will be merciless.
[-] Swimming:
Yep, you heard it; October Claire Hemingway can’t swim. At all. In fact, if you threw her into the Black Lake, she’d most likely drown.
[-]Care of Magical Creatures:
Maybe it’s because she isn’t gentle enough. Maybe it’s because she hates animals. No matter what the cause, October hates CoMC, and apparently it hates her, too.
[-]Her Right Eye:
She’s blind in her right eye. No, she wasn’t hurt. She was born like that.
Fears (At least 5):
[x] Water/Drowning:
See her history.
[x] Drowning:
This one seems a little obvious…
[x] Amnesia:
If she lost her memory, she would be devastated. Then she’d lose all that was left of her mother…
[x] Thunder and Lightning Storms:
They’re loud and scary.
[x] Wolves
They’re big, ugly, growling dogs that could and would tear your arm off. Seriously. That’s a little intimidating, doncha think?
Flaws:
[x]Bossy:
October tends to try and take charge and boss people around. Some people are grateful, others, annoyed. Take your pick.
[x] Vain:
Yeah, Tobie fusses over her appearance constantly. She has to make sure she looks good all the time otherwise she gets self conscious and wants to hide her head in a paper bag.
Over All Personality:
Tobie is that all-around friendly person, until you take a look at her motives. Have you ever met someone who you love to hate, but there really isn’t a reason? You just feel a deep hate emerging from deep inside your gut? Well, October’s that girl. She acts sweet and nice on the outside, when really on the inside she is a total bitch. There are no other words to describe it. She is manipulative, sneaky, and revels in the distress of others. She wasn’t put in Slytherin by chance!
Anyway, a thing that most people note about October once getting to know her better is that she’d got severe trusting issues. She’s not sure when they arose or what triggered them, but she never reveals deep, dark, summer-at-the-lake secrets to anyone. It’s nothing personal; it’s just the way she is. Whether she loves you or hates you, don’t except to learn anything private about her. She only tells her brother things that really bother her (Besides the normal stress about school, friends and boys.) because she has yet to find a friend who would really keep everything about her under wraps. On the other hand, Tobie is great at keeping secrets. You can tell her anything, and she’ll never mention it again.
Some of her other “Slytherin Traits” include her being vain and extremely bossy. Yes, October frets about her appearance almost constantly. She’s always checking herself out in a mirror and on the weekends it takes her forever to come up with an outfit. Some may think it’s her being a snob, and guess what? They’d be right. She doesn’t forget that she comes from a very wealthy family and in her opinion, she should be allowed to let it show. She won’t brag about her monetary comfort per say, but she will drop subtle hints about it. On top of her being vain, she is almost very bossy. Maybe it’s because she’s the oldest child, and older than her twin brother. She doesn’t notice how bossy she is until people point it out, but usually she’ll just snap back with a nasty retort so you’ll shut right up.
History
Parents: Samuel Arthur Hemingway and Hannah Lucy Hemingway (née Jennings)
Siblings: Rowen Wesley Hemingway (Twin Brother), Hannah René Hemingway (Four years old)
Family History:
Samuel Arthur Hemingway began his Hogwarts career and was immediately placed in Slytherin. He, like his children, had a sneaky, manipulative nature about him that only suited the Slytherin house. He would constantly harass the underclassmen and slowly became quite popular in school. However, there was one girl he met that he would throw that all away for…
Hannah Jennings had to have been the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She was petite and small, with curly gold hair and pretty gray-blue eyes. She always looked in a hurry, though; her hair was constantly thrown up in a messy ponytail and her glasses were falling off her nose. One day Sam conjured up enough courage to ask Hannah out, and that’s the way the story goes. From there, the two managed to stay out of the Wizarding War, though did stay on top of things. Hannah went on to become a successful Pediatric Healer at St. Mungos, and Samuel pursued his path to become a writer for the Daily Prophet. Once their careers were firm, they started a family. To their delight, Hannah was blessed with not one, but two beautiful children, whom she named October Claire and Rowen Wesley. The twins were named after their grandparents, and grew up to be bright and lively children that brought joy to the couple’s lives each and every day.
Of course after having such a lovely pregnancy in the years previous, Hannah and Samuel decided to have another child. The pregnancy was nice and easy, and October and Rowen couldn’t wait to have a new baby brother or sister.
Hannah Rene Hemingway was born as happy as her older brother and sister; being named after her great-grandmother (Whom her mother was also named after).
Two years later, Hannah, October and Rowen's mother died tragically. The family had gone to a reunion during July along the British Channel and unfortunately while taking a boat ride, Hannah Lucy Hemingway had fallen overboard and drowned. This had torn the family apart, affecting each person differently.
Self History:
Yep, October was born into an ideal family; Pure on both sides, as well as wealthy. Her parents were loving people who taught her to value life and the people around her, and she stuck well to that until her mother died when she was eleven.
After her mother’s death, October was a wreck. She lost interest in everything she loved, including Quidditch. She would stay in her room for days, not even emerging to eat. Even her brother was unable to pull her from her from the depression that was eating away her heart. With that said, when October finally began to move on, she became very different, as did Rowen. Samuel and Hannah had been sure that October would be placed in Ravenclaw because their daughter devoured books faster than she did meals, though after Hannah’s death she disregarded books, and became more focused on her appearance and earthly possessions. Her father disregarded her strange behavior, thinking that she was just becoming a teenager and that’s what happened.
October was placed in Slytherin house like her father, though most think that if she wasn’t such a manipulator she’d be in Ravenclaw because she studies constantly. She has grown to like books again, though doesn’t read them nearly as much as she did when she was young. She does well in school, receiving O’s on her O.W.L’s. She intends on becoming a Healer, like her mother was.
