The day of the ball had finally arrived. This was the day everyone had been anticipating since it had been announced a few months back. Classes that afternoon had been canceled, as some of the Ravenclaw girls had complained about not having enough time to prepare properly for the ball. Of course, no one needed more than a few hours to get everything all ready, but it was nice not to have classes for a whole afternoon. In fact, it was rather relaxing, as Rosie was a bundle of nerves today more than any other time in her life.
She'd spent the afternoon preparing for the dance. She'd smoothed out her usually tangled mess of wavy russet hair and straightening it out in preparation for curling it. After she'd ironed it into a mass of brunette curls, she arranged it around her shoulders and began applying her make-up. Her hair looked a bit unfinished, and she couldn't decide what to do with it. She decided a flower might do, if she tucked it behind her ear or something, but she couldn't exactly find a flower, and conjuring one would probably send her toiled-over hair into flames. Which would DEFINITELY not be good.
Finally, she slipped on her red and blue dress, stepped into her bright blue flats, and pulled her scarlet mask over her head. Looking in the mirror, she hardly recognized herself. All of a sudden, she realized how much of her feminine touch she'd lost over her years of hanging out practically all the time with teenage boys. She looked so much like an actual girl at the moment that she couldn't really pick out the features she usually identified herself with. Her wild hair was now tamed, and her body, which was usually covered in whatever she could find and throw one, was filling a beautiful, curve-hugging dress. Idly, she wondered whether Teddy would even be able to pick her out of the crowd, of if the two of them would be doomed to wander around aimlessly until they happened to bump into each other.
Of course, she couldn't leave the Common Room without her one form of protection: her wand. She'd thought intensely about where to put her wand when she was in such a dress as this, with no sleeves, pockets, or any other way to store a long piece of wood. Finally, she decided to strap it to her leg. It was what the Muggles did with guns in the movies anyways, so why not do it now? And it worked quite well. She could hardly feel it was there, and you couldn't notice at all from the outside.
With everything taken care of, Rosie finally headed out of the Common Room. She walked with a gaggle of girls to the Grand Staircase, where she spotted Teddy, who looked as handsome as ever in a sharp vest suit. Her stomach shooting up her throat just a bit, she ginned at him, and waved before starting to make her way down the staircase into the Entrance Hall.
