FAQ Part 1 - Basic RPGing
What is an RPG?
An rpg is a role playing game in which people take control of their own personal characters, and "live their lives". It is like a story written by lots of writers instead of one, and can be loads of fun.
RPG stands for role playing game. It's when you assume the role of a character (usually an original one you make up) in a world were every other character is also playing a role. You then act out your role in situations around it. There are also NPCs (non-player-characters) in RPGS, these are usually characters created by Admin for the sole purpose of helping out stories.
What is Alohomora?
Alohomora is a Harry Potter based roleplaying community. This means that we create our own original or canon characters in the magical community created by J.K. Rowling.
I'm new to roleplaying, what do I do?
Your rpg posts should be written in third person and in the past tense, as this is the most common tense used in writing and the easiest to read. When a character speaks it should be placed inside speech marks. You may use bold for speech and italics for thoughts, if you wish to do so. If you get stuck, just ask another member of PM one of the staff.

FAQ Part 2 - Getting Started
Where do I start playing?
Anywhere you want to. Have a look through the areas, pick one your character wants to be in and just start a post, or find a post that’s already active and jump in. However you MUST post your character profile and have it approved first.
How do I introduce my character?
The best way is to just introduce yourself in the chat box and get to know a few of the other members. We’re all a friendly bunch, we don’t bite, honestly! Then you can just start a thread and have fun.
How long can my posts be?
They can be as long as you like. Paragraphs are loved! There isn’t an actual minimum number of words, but less than five lines makes it difficult for others to reply to your post.
Should I just jump into a thread or ask first?
Well there are several things to look out for in the title of a thread: [open] – This means any character can join. [Character, Character] – This thread is private, most likely because the members involved have already scripted it. Members not invited cannot join.

FAQ Part 3 - Characters
How many characters can I have?
There is no limit to the numbers of characters you have on Alohomora, as long as they are all active. However it is best to get a character well established in the roleplay before creating a new one. The average number of characters have members of Mora is three, with the odd exception having a couple more than that.
Can my character die, or leave Mora forever?
Yes – this is totally up to you of course. If you decide to write out a character, some of our members will be glad to help you in creating a plot idea. Of course if you just don’t want to play a character any more, just PM one of the staff to let them know.
What can my character do?
Pretty much anything, there are no limits so to speak.
What can't my character do?
Ok well there is one major limitation. Your character cannot kill another character without the other member’s permission.
Any other questions?
If you have another question that hasn't been answered, post it in the Questions & Suggestions Board or PM a member of staff.
