When Niki clasped Zane's arm, he freaked. No I can't do this. I can't. How do I stop this? Say something...I can't, I don't know what to do. Bound for life, no! I don't want that. I don't want this. I don't want to die. Let me go please. Just let me get as far away as possible. Come on legs, run! Why won't you listen to me? I'm just stuck here, I can't change it, I, I, help me someone. I don't want this. What will the others think? They'll think I've betrayed them. I don't want that. I don't want to hurt them, they mean too much to me. They'll cast me out and I'll be on my own, just what Charlotte and her gang have been waiting for. I have to convince Niki that this isn't the right thing to do. At that point Kia's wand touched Zane's forearm, causing a shock of electricity to run up his arm. A tendral of flame appeared and wrapped itself around his hand and then Niki's, whilst Kia spoke quietly over the top, muttering the words which would make the incantation complete. SAY SOMETHING! But it was too late, the tendrals of flames had disappeared and Zane was left with a faint crisscrossing shadow of where the flames had been, imprinted in his skin.. Shit
Feeling the tip of Kia's wand on her hand, she tore her eyes away from Zane, to look at Kia. Her eyes showed her apprehensiveness, but deep down inside Niki knew this was for the best... well part of it. It just made her feel weird to be so connected with someone whom was the enemy. Not necessarily her enemy, but the DE's main enemy. Which was just asking for trouble. But of course, Nikita craved trouble. It was basically her life right now. Trouble. Ahh... what a beautiful word in Nikita's point of view. Just like death, murder, coldness, and darkness. Of course there were more words that Nikita loved to hear, that made her feel closer to her father, but way too many to list out.
A wave of shock seemed to travel throughout Zane and Nikita, and she looked up in surprise. Their hands were connected by a flame, that swirled around both of their hands, and forearms. Her shock showed neatly in her eyes, and she gasped lightly, bewildered by it. She ran her other hand through her hair, releasing it from minor tangles that might have formed throughout the time they had spent out at the Boat House. She closed her eyes tightly, but opened them slowly and apprehensively. She saw the tattoo like shadows on her forearm, mirroring the same pattern as was on Zane's arm. She could already feel the connection deep inside of her. She felt more... powerful. A great thing in her case.

Kia watched carefully as the flames left their mark. She remained impassive, not giving away the fact that she was worried about the vow that her best friend and her brother had just made. Surely this couldn't be good, could it? She stepped back, catching Niki's eye, giving her a look which read I can't believe you just did that, before turning her back on Nikita and Zane and heading out onto the deck. She stepped into the nearest rowing boat and with a quick incantation, the boat began rowing itself away from the boat house. She soon reached the bank, and with out a backward glance, started walking towards the castle.

Watching with silence as Kianthra walked away without another word, Nikita took a step away from Zane. She would have to talk to Kia later, but not tonight. After she did the other thing that she wanted to do, she would be utterly exhausted. After Kia's familiar blond hair vanished entirely, Nikita stepped closer to Zane once more. Her voice was hushed as she spoke to him, afraid that she would be overheard. "Okay, well that was... interesting. I'm not done though... please Zane. Let me finish what I came here for." She sighed deeply at her ending statement, rubbing the back of her hand across her forehead. Her pale eyes were sharp, and threatening as they swam around.
Finally, Nikita decided that it was time to tell Zane about it all. She took in a deep breath, a hand running through her thick black layers. Her voice was shaky, but promising. Cold, but warm. Finally, she spoke, "Zane, I... I... I need to do this. I don't want you to die... and I don't want to die. But I'd rather die with you than without you." She looked at him, knowing that she had already confused him. "I know, I'm not making any sense... but the Vow we just made has connected us a lot... but now we need to finish that connection." She paused, but spoke just as soon, "Zane, I love you. Like a sister. Kinda... Or maybe a best friend... but that's besides the point." Another quick pause, "I want to give you a dark mark. My Dark Mark. For just you and me. That way if you're in troube, then I can save you... or the other way around."

Why did I just do that? What the hell was I thinking? The unbreakable vow. It's called that for a reason Zaney, because it's bloody unbreakable! Now Kia's leaving, well at least there's a silver lining to this dark cloud. And Niki's speaking now, maybe I should focus in on what she's saying...I don't like the sounds of this, maybe I should take a chance and swim for it. No I'll hear her out. A dark mark? Did I just hear that right? She'd rather die with me than without me?!? How depressing, I can't even think about that, I won't think about it, and the only way I can think of to get round it without thinking about it is to say..."Okay" he said quietly, not meeting Niki's eyes as he continued to examine the marks left by the flames.
Still totally appalled by the Unbreakable Vow, Nikita scurried closer to Zane. She grabbed his hand, placing it palm up. She placed the very tip of her wand in the very center of his palm, saying the next word slowly and as quietly as she could manage, with the word still being audible, "Morsmordre," The word seemed to slid out from her mouth, and her lips curled up in a smile. She took in a deep breath, watching as the dark mark began to cut into Zane's skin, looping into the perfect form. Nikita could also feel her own palm stinging severely as she held the wand to Zane's palm.
The mark turned an ash gray color on each of their skin as Nikita's wand left Zane's palm. She looked down at hers, which was glowing red at the edges, due to the fact that the Mark was brand new. She smiled, happy with how it had turned out. She looked up at Zane raising her left eyebrow. "Looks pretty good to me. Well, better than I had expected at least." She snorted, chuckling softly. She shrugged softly, turning away from Zane to dip her hand in the Lake's soothing water. The salt in the lake stung her new mark slightly, but the feeling faded as she sat on the edge of the deck.

He held his hand as still as possible as Niki created their own dark mark. When she had finished, he held his palm up, seeing the ash grey mark turn silver in the moonlight. She was right it did look good, but Zane knew he would have a hell of a time trying to hide it from the others. Maybe I can say it's a Quidditch injury or something? It would give me an excuse to cover it up with a bandage... It was glowing red at the edges, and still stung slightly but not as much as it had been a few minutes earlier. He watched Niki dip her hand in the lake and followed her lead, thinking it to be a good idea. "So, what now?" he said quietly, as he sat next to her on the deck.
Nikita smiled softly at Zane as he sat down next to her. Sh shrugged at his statement, deciding that it was about time that the two forbidden friends unwinded and had a little fun. Her voice was cheerful and contagious, just like her laughter, as she responded to his question softly, "Well... considering you haven't been all that cheery this whole night, which I can't figure out why you aren't cheery, why don't we have a little fun?" She said, jumping towards him and knocking him into the water with a big thump!
Laughing softly at Zane, she stood up, smiling down at him before talking once more in a happy, carefree, go-lucky kinda tone of voice, "Well, that was fun. Don't you think so, Z? I mean... you're down there, soaking wet, and I'm up here, nice and dry. You gotta love things like this." She smiled, hoping that he wouldn't pull her into the water, but also wishing he would.
