So it was finally over, and finally, he could go back to school. Not that he'd ever actually admit he missed school, but working for his father was just terrible. But as long as Corliss didn't find out what was going on, it was fine. Scorpius ran a hand through his blonde hair, his eyelids feeling about 10 pounds heavier than they should be; how long had it been since he'd gotten a decent night's worth of sleep? It had been too long for this Slytherin's liking.
His things had already been sent back to school, as it wasn't like a Malfoy to carry their own things. He muttered the common room password and nearly plowed into the door as he trudged inside. Luckily, there wasn't anyone in the common room; it was about 12:30 AM after all. He exhaled a sigh and plopped himself onto the couch, kicking up his feet. Thinking about how he would explain to his sister where he'd been, and trying to think of a way to get Charlotte and Kia not to tell her, he scrunched his eyebrows together, fingering the bridge of his nose and sighing again. Scorpius looked at the fireplace, and its low crackling noise lulled his eyes shut.
Nikita walked back up to the castle, soaking wet. Her hair was now dripping on the back of her shirt, and she was covered with little drops of water. Nikita had been taking a late night dip at the Black Lake, as always. It was now getting late, and Nikita didn't know how much longer she could stand being out in the cold. Especially when she was dripping wet. Normally Niki liked having the cold wind brush up against her skin as she got out of the icy water, but this time was different. It was as if something was trying to push her back into the common room. All of a sudden a big rush of wind swept across Niki. She shivered harder, and her teeth began to chatter. Nikita sped her pace up, as her eyes searched the area around her. Her eyes were a beautiful pale blue in the light of the shining moon, and stars. Nikita also looked very pale in the light. Finally Nikita reached the castle, still shivering, and chattering her teeth. Nikita entered the common room quietly, after whispering the password to get in. She tippy toed farther in, afraid to wake anyone. She looked around the room, and noticed Scorpius lying on the couch. His eyes were closed, but that didn't entirely mean that he was asleep. Nikita glanced down at herself frantically, making sure she looked okay. She grunted, as she saw all of the water drops on her skin, and clothes. She was wearing a black tank top, and dark blue shorts. She wanted to throw on some new clothes, but she knew it would cause too much commotion. She just decided to walk over to the comfortable chair that was closest to the fire. Nikita sat down, and let out a breath. Her teeth chattered once more, making a loud sound. 'Oh, no!' Niki thought to herself. Scorpius was sure to wake up now! Nikita closed her eyes immediatly pretending to be asleep.
Well, his moment of silence only lasted about 10 minutes; how precious that time was. He squinted his eyes, annoyed, and opened one reluctantly. Scorpius say Nikita sitting close to the fire, apparently either just getting out of the shower or gone swimming, for she was wet and shivering. He determined to himself that it was probably the lake water. He smirked a bit to himself and closed his eyes once more. She was obviously pretending to be asleep, but it didn't work considering her teeth were chattering louder than anything.
"I know you're awake, Nikita." Scorpius said in a bored voice, shifting on the couch. He placed a hand behind his head and exhaled greatly before adding, "You really do need to work on your acting."
Nikita's eyes barely opened, as she listened to Scorpius talk. "Ummm... yeah I know. I'm not real good at that." Nikita muttered, feeling embarrassed. Nikita opened her eyes fully now, not acting as if she were asleep, anymore. She looked over at Scorpius, whom still had his eyes closed. She knew better to think that he was asleep though. There was no way he was asleep. Then Nikita thought it was in her best interest to talk even more, "I'm sorry that I woke you, Scorpius." Nikita apologized softly, but did not stop talking. "How are you?" Nikita asked the final question with curiosity, and comfort. She had a feeling that he had been having a rough time, but she wasn't positive. Nikita looked back at the fire, feeling the heat from it. She was starting to get warmer, and her hair was drying.
How was he? The very question almost made him laugh out loud, a luxury he hadn't had in days. But with a look of slightly irritated amusment, he muttered one word: "Fantastic." His tone was completely not fantastic. He turned his head, and he too looked at the fire. As annoyed as the Slytherin was, however, he knew Nikita meant well and tried his very best to be decent-mannered. After all, she was a Slytherin, and she was Corliss's best friend. Not that that detail mattered much, but...
"I've been...busy these past couple of days, and---AUGH!" Mid-sentence, Scorpius moved his neck just so, and searing pain went from his neck to his shoulder and back. He whipped a hand to the injured area, and squinted his eyes shut, waiting for the pain to diminish.
Great, he thought, now she'll want to know what that was...
Nikita listened quietly to Scorpius, as he spoke. She closed her eyes, and sighed. Nikita was trying to relax, until she heard Scorpius' holler. She jumped up and ran to Scorpius, suddenly worried. "Scorpius? What's wrong?" She questioned him seriously, her eyes staring deeply into his. She knelt on the ground, beside Scorpius' head, her eyes still on his. She looked away feeling uncomfortable, and her eyes scanned over his hand, that was clutching his neck/back. She cocked her head to the side, eyeing Scorpius curiously. Nikita sighed once more, her eyes staring into his again. "Umm... where does it hurt? Your back or neck?" Nikita aske Scorpius, her eyes darting from his eyes to his hand, that was still clutching his neck/back. "I could probably help you... well, if you wanted me too." Nikita spoke softly, and cautiously to Scorpius. She shrugged her shoulder at him, and smiled softly. Her eyes sparkled with delight, and they stared into Scorpius', waiting for his response.
