Lysander walked slowly out towards the black lake with his hands stuck deep in his pocket. He just left his twin out in the common room, as Lorcan was working his magic on some third year girl. He shook his head, Lorcan was such a flirt, and if anyone really listened to what came out of his mouth, they would know he was actually a bad one. Despite his brothers lack of real..flirtmanship, he of course loves him dearly.
He reached the edge of the lake and pulled his hat off his head, ruffling his now curly hat hair. He dropped the hat on the ground next to him and he sat down leaning back on his hands. He looked up to the sky, it was a mixture of pink and orange and purple. Sunset. The day was ending and he hadn't talked to most people all day. Including her.
He rubbed the back of his head sighing, he wanted to tell her soon. With this ball coming up he hoped he hadn't lost his chance to ask her. For all he knew she was waiting for the perfect person to ask her and would just laugh at him if he finally worked up the courage to do it.
Lily Potter. He wished he could just be a man and tell her he wanted to be more then just friends. Lysander just loved talking with her. Gah! He leaned all the way onto his back, slightly bending his legs. He lay there for a few more moments and leaned forward staring into the water. He wished he could see at least one fish, but all he saw was his reflection.
Lily walked to the side of the lake. James was in the Common room, probaly trying to get a date. She didn't care. He was outgoing. Asking girls out right and left. Not Lily. She kept to herself. She only had one boy on her mind. Lysander Scamander. He was cute and smart. She had been asked to the ball by many boys. She had said no to all of them. She was waiting for Ander to ask her. She had said mabye to one 4th year, who's name she didn't remember. She turned a light shade of pink as she neared the lake. SHe looked up to see him looking into the lake about 100 meters from her. She made her way slowly over to him. The whole way thinking, 'Don't make a fool of yourself Lily. Play it cool' As she got about three meters from him she smiled. "Hey there Ander!" she called. She walked up and smiled at him. He was really cute. No way he would ask her to the ball. 'Guess that No Name guy will be happy' she thought. "What are you doing out here?" she asked sweetly. She took off her light jacket and tossed it to the ground. It was hot out here, why had she worn that jacket? Oh well. He cheeks had died down from their bright pink color now, so it her cheeks weren't clashing with her red hair.

Lysander looked over his shoulder at the sound of a familiar voice. He felt his mouth break out into an automatic smile at the sight of her. "Hey Lil! Long time no see." He waved to her as she walked closer to him. "I'm just hanging out with the fishes, trying to spot some underwater life."
He patted the ground next to him, "So, what are you doing out here? Following me?" He was glad that felt this comfortable around her. He never would be able to joke with anyone else like that. He noted how her flushed skin looked with the color of her hair. She was so adorable when she had pink cheeks, he was almost sad to see them fade. Of course he always thought she looked adorable.
He picked out a small blade of grass from the dirt underneath him and kept his gaze to the floor. He had a determined look on his face and was not going to let himself have left this spot tonight without asking her. Her looked up at her, "So, you've probably gotten thousands of requests for the ball already, huh?" He hoped she hadn't said yes to any of them, he prayed. "I mean it sounds fun to say the least, a masquerade is crazy cool." He mentally slapped himself, feeling like he was going to make a complete fool of himself.
Lily smiled softly bringing the flushed pink color back to her cheeks. She sat down next to Lysander and looked out across the vast lake. "Your right. I haven't seen you in forever."she said with a small laugh. Her small hand grazed over the grass around them. She looked back up at him. "You know, fish are very good company to have."she laughed. Lily sighed as she hear Ander's question. "I'm not following you. I was... taking a walk."she answered. Her green eyes scanned over Ander in a quick wave. 'Man, he is cute!' she thought. Lily knew her cheeks flamed a hot pink when he asked about the ball. She looked down at her hands as the pondered on how to answer the question. "Well, I have only been asked four times. I said no to all of them. I just didn't think any of them were the right one."she said, hoping he would catch on to the small hint she threw in. "I bet you have been asked millions of times."she said.

He was still touching the small blades of grass when his hand grazed the side of her's. He coughed suddenly, trying to hid his red face. He turned his blush around and joked more about her 'stalking' him. "Ha, I was just kiding Lil." Even though he realized he wouldn't mind at all if she was following him a bit.
He nodded, "Oh, uhm. None of them huh? No one, um, impressed you? And no, I mean, I've gotten a few invites, but like you said, I didn't really think much of them. Nothing there, you know what I mean." He choked on his next few words. She still hadn't said yes to anyone...He was praying that he could be that 'right one' she wanted. "You know...If, well, you'd want to, seeing as we both still haven't found a date..." His throat was burning, he was the worst in these kind of situations. "Wannagototheballwithmeitcouldbefun?" He asked so quickly that he was surprised he could understand some of what he said.
Lily smiled, bringing the warmth of it into her green eyes. She glanced down at the ground quickly. Not knowing if Ander would ask her was killing the young Gryffindor. Lily looked up at Ander with pink cheeks. "Ya it is hard to find the perfect date. I just can't seem to really like them. Well...."she was trying to say when she heard Ander. Her face grew to a hot pink when he asked her to go. "Of course I will go with you Ander!"she said happily. Millions of questions rushed through her mind. 'What am I going to tell James? Will he like Ander?' was her most nerve racking thought. Her brother had to approve.

Lysander let out the long deep breath he was holding in and grinned enormous. "You will?! That's great Lil!"He gave her a huge hug in excitement. He couldn't stop smiling, even if his cheeks were flushing bright red. "Where would you like to meet? At the entrance? Should I tell you what I'm wearing or do you think you'll recognize me behind the mask?" God, he was running a mile a minute. He was just so ecstatic. He couldn't wait to tell his brother the great news, and was going to hope he wouldn't make a fool of himself when they got to the dance.
Lily put a hand on Ander's shoulder. She caught his gaze and held it. "Ander, take a deep breath. We can meet at the entrance. I am sure I will be able to tell it is you. If I can't, you will be able to tell it is me." she said, turning an even deeper pink. 'God! I whis I wasn't a red head. Then mabey I wouldn't mind blushing so much. I mean, it clashes so horribly.' she thought.

Lysander grinned and nodded, "That sound's brilliant, I really can't wait to see you there Lily." It was easier for him to think and speak now and he nearly blushed as she locked eyes with him. He sighed, "Well, I'm very sorry to say this, but it looks like we need to get back into out respectful commons, before we get in trouble and caught by a prefect." He stood up and offered his hand to Lily, "I'll walk you to the Gryffindor common room."
He, Lysander Scamander, was finally brave for once and was taking Lily Potter to the ball. All was well in his world.
Lily smiled at Ander. She saw him faintly turn pink, but it quickly vanished. 'Aw, how cute! I wish I could control my blushing like that...' she thought. She listened to him speak, watching him say every word. She frowned. "Yes, it does seem like we should get going, although, I doubt we will get caught." she said with a impish grin. She took hold of Lysander's hand and let him help her up. When it felt like he was going to let go, she squeezed his hand lightly. She smiled softly. "It would be nice if you walked me to the Common Room. Thank you sir." she said with a laugh. She glanced over at him but quickly diverted her gaze. "So, what will you be wearing to the ball, I must be able to find you." she said happily.
