The Black Lake was as blue as ever, and it was a nce day, despite the summer heat, and Victoire was skipping class. She hadn't done her Charms homework to start with, so why bother going to class? She'd deal with the consenquences later. Plugging in a headphone, she smiled as the voices of Nickleback flooded her brain, leaving her with a feeling of contentment. Now if only she could get someone to do her homework... Laying on her back, Victoire put the CD player to the side and closed her eyes, boredly. With nothing to do, why not relax? She'd have loads to do later. "Cuz we all just wanna be big rock stars, and live in hilltop mansions, driving sixteen cars.
Rosie wasn't one to skip class. Especially Charms, which was definitely one of her best classes, and thus, one of her favorites. Of course, like any other student, she'd rather be on weekend than in classes, but if they were necessary to acheive the peace and joy of weekends and breaks, then one must endure, right?
However, today she'd just been feeling weird. She doubted it had anything to do with any of her surroundings. Probably just her. Rosie got weird every so often and she needed to be by herself or with just one other person for pretty much a whole day. She'd just got so overwhelmed. Usually, she'd spend days like this with Teddy, as they were mostly on weekends, but when it couldn't be avoided, like on weekdays, she skipped a few of her classes and just wandered around the school grounds.
And so she found Victoire, sitting by the Black Lake. For some reason, she approached and, though she knew she might regret it, as Victoire was definitely not someone she'd chose to spend a whole day with, should she have the choice, sat down next to the girl, pulling off the headphones to her virtually ancient walkman.
"Hey Vikki," she greeted her cousin, smiling a rather strained smile.

Hearing only muffled noise through her headphones, which were loudly blasting random tidbits of rock music as Victoire switched through the music, she opened one eye to see Rosie beside her. Turning down the volume, she opened the other eye, and put on her most realistic fake smile. "Afternoon cousin. Skipping class, are we?" She asked, even though the answer was obvious. She sat up, and looked around, trying to make it less awkward than she really felt. What was Rosie doing here, anyway? Shouldn't the goody-goody be in Charms? You're supposed to be in Charms an annoying part of her mind nagged. She internally shrugged, and switched the music to something country, not even bothering to listen to the lyrics.
She wrapped her arms around her jean-covered legs. It was rather chilly out here, especially by the lake, which heralded uninterrupted, rather suddenly cold breezes.
She was wearing one of her dad's old woolen sweaters, the one that her grandmother had made for her father many a year ago, before her hands had been stricken with arthritis, thus making her unable to knit any longer. The sweater was a nice maroon color, which made her auburn-tinted, russet hair look darker than it actually was. Across the front was a large R, embroidered in golden thread. Though it was a bit too big for her, she loved it anyways. It reminded her of her father, and smelled like him too.
"You think I'm too good to cut classes?" Rosie asked, a hint of a laugh in her voice. To her rebellious cousin, anyone who was even close to normal in their attendence of class was a goody-goody and a total suck-up. At least, that's what Rosie'd gathered from the way Victoire talked. "Believe me, Victoire, I'm not as good as you think."

Not knowing wheather to laugh, smile, or snort, Victoire shurgged. "I dunno, Rosie." She said, simply, noting in the back of her head that she was listening to "White Horse" by Taylor Swift. Why did I even put that on here? She sat there queitly, for a few moments, Swift's voice seeming too loud, and Victoire shrugged again. "I'm not as bad as you think." She replied, knowing she probably sounded far too sarcastic. Her father had told her she had a problem with that. She toyed with he locket around her neck, waiting for her cousin's response, and wondering how long it would take for them to be at each others' throat.
The cold wouldn't have been a problem had it not been for the cold metal of her key necklace pressing against the sensitive warmth of her chest. She shivered slightly as she moved and the key flipped over under her sweater, exposing her chest to the other side of the key. The cold side.
She'd gotten this necklace a while back, when her Grandma Rosie, her mother's mother, had been falling ill. Grandpa Granger had died a while back, and so her grandmother had been living alone. When the word came of her grandmother's sickness, Rosie's mother had moved Grandma Rosie to a Muggle nursing home, sold mostly everything in her house, before selling the house itself and moving on with life. Rosie had found the key in a dusty box in her grandmother's attic. Long ago, it had probably opened the lock of the box it was in, but the lock had been rusted so badly that it had broken with little effort on Rosie's part.
After her Grandma Rosie's death, Rosie had kept the key, putting it on a chain and keeping it close to her heart, always. She'd always been close to her grandmother, and the loss of her took a monumental toll on the Gryffindor girl's life. Rosie pushed thought of the key out of her head. It only made her sad, remembering her grandma. And what good was sadness?
"So," Rosie said, attempting to think up a topic, failing, and then turning to the subject that most everyone was talking about these days. "You gotta date for the ball yet?"

Ball? The subject hadn't even crossed Vikki's mind. When was that, anyway? "Nah. I forgot all about it, actually!" She laughed, but stopped, laying back again. She sighed. "What about you? Got your eye on anybody? Victoire was pretty sure Rosie liked somebody, but, as usual, she had no idea who. If all else failed, she'd start guessing names to see who she started blushing at. Unless, Rose told her before thigns came to that.
Rosie laughed. "Bloody hell, you're cutting it close, Vikki," she chuckled, knowing her cousin often forgot about important things like this, "It's in two days, you goose. But I suppose that doesn't matter to you. Any guy in the school would die if you asked them to the ball."
She was rather surprised when Victoire asked her who she had her eye on. Rosie smirked. She often wondered why she was ever surprised. Her cousin ALWAYS wanted to know. In fact, it was one of the only things that the two stopped biting each other's heads off long enough to talk about in depth. And one of the few things they could bond over.
Well, Rosie had gotten an invite. Though it was rather a surprising one, she couldn't want to go with anyone else as much as she wanted to go with the person who'd invited her. In fact, she'd been rather hoping he'd ask, even though she knew it was next to impossible. But, he had. Such a lucky day for her.
"Yeah, someone asked me during the Hogsmeade trip," she answered, trying to sound nonchalant, "Guess."

"Yeah" Victoire smiled at her own forgetfulness. "Two days, eh?" She gave a shrug. "Maybe I'll meet someone there." She chuckled, but turned her attention back to the task at hand. Getting Rosie to tell her who had asked her. "Oh, you're so mean!" She replied, though she had clearly seen this coming, and in no way meant it. "Who had asked Rosie? Who? Who? Who?" She chanted, giggling at her own weirdness. "Zane! She declared rather hastily. "Wait, no...uh....Teddy?" Her mind ran a blank, so she choose the only two Gryffindors that came to mind, becuase she knew her cousin would never go to the ball with anybody from any other House.
Rosie snorted. "You know, you could save the trouble and just ask someone right now. I'm sure any guy in the school would ditch their date for you. Which is a good thing for you. Even if it's pretty bad for their date," she said, thinking. She wondered how she'd feel if Ted ditched her for Victoire. She doubted he ever would, even if her cousin was thousands of times better looking than her. "Ah yes, it's terrible of me to make you guess," Rosie laughed, before listening to her guesses. After a moment of smiling, she answered, "Now which one is it?"

"It's totally Teddy. I'm supposed to ask Zane, so... I'm not sure if I will, though. I haven't seen him lately. She snickered. "I know it's Teddy 'cause he told me. Victory!" She smiled at her cousin. "Ah, young love." She didn't fell it was worth saying that Rosie was only a year younger than herself. That would be a little too much info.
Rosie laughed. "Why not? You and Zane would be so cute together," she said, smiling. She wondered why Victoire had called it 'young love'. Sure, Rosie was a year younger than her cousin, even if she was in the same Year, but Ted was the same age as Victoire. In fact, he was older.

"The dance is tonight, and I don't know if I'll see him by then. If i see him I'll ask" She smiled and loked into the sky. "Not to Jinx us and all, but I think this is the longest we've gone without trying to murder each other. I might have to write home about that one." Holding back a laugh, Victoire looked at Rosie to see what kind of effect taht comment would make.
Rosie grinned at Victoire's words. She supposed they'd be ripping off each other's heads in about two seconds, but at the moment, that hardly mattered. It was the first time in a while that she hadn't wanted to start a row with her cousin. And that in itself was a major accomplishment. "That's too bad," she said sympathetically. And this time, she actually meant it. "Perhaps Peter Love? He's been throwing off girls all week. I could suggest you to him."

Peter Love? "Love? I think he flaunts his last name a bit too much, and doesn't he have a girlfriend? Or did he dump her? She didn't last long, if he did. But, none of them ever do."She sighed. "I can't believe I forgot. Go me. Wow I'm intelligent." She laughed. "I shoulda been in Raveclaw I'm so smart.
