Avery put his head in his hands, totally embarrassed. "I'm sorry...I just kinda got distracted..." Avery said through his hands. "I fell like such an idiot." Avery looked up at Corliss, and rolled his bottom lip down, like five year olds do when they want something. This time Avery did it for forgiveness. He laughed and his bottom lip popped back up into normal position.
Corliss laughed at Avery. "Well, that is a good reason." she said, still trying to guess what had distracted him. " Don't feel bad, I do that all the time." she said sweetly, patting him on the shoulder again. When his lip went out Corliss smirked. She stifled a laugh. "Well, of course I can't not forgive that face!" she joked, patting his cheek. She moved her hand to her lap and messed with her ring, a silver, snake shaped ring. The snake was coiled around the pointer finger on her right hand.
Avery laughed, and watched her look at her ring. "It was very beautiful. But not as beautiful as her." He thought to himself. He lifted her chin up to make her look at him. He made himself look very serious. Then out of no where he smiled his most playful smile. He let go of her warm chin and put his hand on his pumpkin juice cup. He gulped the rest of it down very quickly, looking at Corliss from the corner of his eye.
Corliss could feel Avery's eyes on her before she felt his hand lift her chin up. She kept her face blank, talking with only her eyes which smoldered as she looked at him. When he let go and drank his pumpkin juice, her heart fluttered. 'Good thing Scorpius isn't here. He might rip Avery's head off.' she laughed to herself.
Avery heard Corliss laugh quietly...probably not meant for him to hear. He turned to look at her again with a questioning expression. "What?" Avery asked patiently. "Come on! If it's 'funny' then you have to tell me." Avery smiled and waited for a reply.
Corliss looked at Avery. "Oh! Um, nothing just think about my brother..." she said, trailing off because he wasn't supposed to hear her laugh. She smiled at him, hoping the conversation would change.
Avery smiled back at her sweetly. "Oh, I see." Avery laughed. He looked at Corliss deep in the eyes wishing he would never have to look away from them. They paralyzed him to where he couldn't think, nor talk. He could hardly even move when he was staring into their paralyzing deepness.
What is happening to me? Am I falling for Corliss? He thought to himself while he stared into her beautiful eyes. If I am...then I will keep falling for her, and make my move before someone else does. If I'm not falling for her then I want to start. She's amazing. Any guy in the world would be lucky to have her. That lucky guy will be me. He finished thinking to himself. He smiled at her softly.

Corliss was looking into his eyes when she heard shouting. She lovely eyes blazed as she turned her head to see a group of Slytherins and Gryffindors fighting 'til the death. 'Oh, they can handle this themselves.' she thought as a Gryffindor drew his wand. Quickly the Slytherin grabbed her wand. "I'll be back." she said quickly, turning to the group. Seeing as there were no teachers here yet, Corliss felt it right to act. She made her way to the Slytherin side, causing the Gryffindors, and some of the first year Slytherins, to cower before her. "Now, what are we doing here?" she asked, looking at the tiny boy, clutching his wand. Corliss laughed. "Get out of here and report to detention after school!" she said to the five Gryffindors. The rest of the kids scattered. The girl walked over to Avery. "Sorry about that." she said with a smile. She sat down and took a sip of pumpkin juice before looking at him again.
Avery watched Corliss with passion. When she came back he said to her, "It's okay." Avery stared Corliss in the eyes still thinking about falling for her. Yes he was definitely falling for her. There was no denying it. He grabbed a strawberry and swallowed it in a matter of seconds.

Corliss sighed, she wondered what was putting Avery in this... Trance like state. "Avery, what is going on with you?" she asked, lifting a perfect eyebrow in his direction.
Avery bit his bottom lip arguing with himself if he should tell her the truth. You simply CAN'T tell her, you're falling for her!!! Yes I can! NO YOU CAN'T! Fine, I wont tell her that I'm FALLING for her...I'll simply tell her that her eyes are distracting me. "Well...your eyes keep distracting me. I'm sorry. I'm trying not to look into them but It's really hard not to." Avery laughed, rolling his eye at himself. He smiled at Corliss, very happy to get it off his chest.

Corliss smiled, knowing that Avery wasn't telling her the whole truth. "Oh come on Avery Bishop! I can tell when you are lying. So, now you tell me the whole truth, and nothing but the truth." she said, laughing at herself for sound cop like. She tapped her slender fingers on the table as she waited for him to respond.
Avery put his head in his hands. He couldn't believe that he was going to have to tell her. Then his 'inner voice' started arguing again... NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!! YOU WILL NOT, I REPEAT WILL NOT, tell her the truth. You must lie to her. I am not going to lie to her! I am going to tell her the truth. All of it. Avery put his 'inner voice' at the back of his head not thinking about it anymore. Not listening to it. It was his decision. "Okay, so here's the thing..." Avery began but then abruptly stopped. "I...I don't know if I should tell you..." He was going to tell her... but then he got nervous. He wanted to make sure she really wanted to know, first.

Corliss smiled as Avery began having a mental debate. She could tell due to him putting his head in his hands. She laughed lightly. "Oh come on! Of course I want to know. I might have to tell you something after you tell me...." she said, praying that he would tell her what she wanted to hear. "OK, lets get this show on the road."
Avery shook his head trying to clear his mind. Then he decided that now was the time to tell her. "Okay... sooo, lately I've been having these feelings...for a certain person...ummm...This is really hard to say.'' He began still trying to get under control. He continued, "I'm sorta falling for this person...and she's kinda sitting... right in front of me..." Avery looked at Corliss his heart faltering. He breathed in and out, and smiled softly at Corliss. He then placed his hand on top of Corliss's. Her hand was warm under his. He felt butterflies rise up in his stomach. He normally didn't feel like this around girls...but, this girl was different. He smiled a little bigger at Corliss, showing off his confidence.
