Nikita climbed the stairs heading up towards the third floor. She was going to go into the trophy room to try to relax, and ease up the tension she had. Today had been a rough day. She didn't sleep at all last night, and she was too stressed to concentrate in class. Nikita was in a bad mood, to say the least. Nikita was in no hurry to get to where she wanted to be though. Nikita shook her head, and her eyes fluttered open, and she heard feet moving quickly. She saw a first year, and gave an ugly glare to him. The first year's eyes widened, and he turned quickly the other way. Nikita ripped out her wand, and pointed it towards the first year boy. 'Stupefy!' Nikita thought to herself fluently. Red sparks flew out of the end of Nikita's wand, and hit the running first year square in the back. The weak boy fell immediatly to the floor, unconcious. 'He won't be going anywhere for a while.' Nikita thought pleasantly to herself. She smiled evilly, and continued on her way to the Trophy room, beginning to giggle. Nikita looked around the room, with a thousand of trophies, protected by glass. Nikita walked over to one that had immediatly caught her attention. She cocked her head to the side as she read the lable. 1995 Triwizard Cup
Nikita smiled softly. She could only dream of being in the triwizard cup. Or winning it. Nikita turned her back on the shining trophy, and sat down on the floor. She put her head in her hands, and tried to relax.

Zane walked slowly across the entrance hall. He'd been in detention yet again, which was becoming a common occurance. At least this one had only been to help out Professor Longbottom. The easiest detention ever. He had a nice chat with Neville talking about the good old days, whilst pruning and repotting various shrubs. He headed up the stairs intending to head to the common room but instead decided to take a detour. There was something there blocking his way. Something that looked strangely like a person, oh it's a first year, stupid Slytherins. Why can't they pick on someone their own size? He quickly cast the counter charm before helping the first year to his feet. "Who did this to you Ben?" The first year just shook his head, too scared to answer, before running off up the stairs. Zane shook his head and continued down the third floor corridor. He reached the door to the Trophy Room and paused. There were shadows cast from the flickering candles, there's someone else in there.
He opened the door silently and stepped inside. No sign of anyone. He walked over to the nearest trophy case and smiled. Sitting in the cabinet, shining as if it had just been polished, was the House Quidditch Cup. Gryffindor had won the cup for the last three years in a row. The only time they hadn't won the cup when Zane was in the team, was in his third year, but best not think about that. He walked up the room until he caught sight of the biggest trophy case, it was holding the Triwizard Cup for 1995. And there, sat a the base, head in hands, was a student. Deciding not to disturb whoever it was, he went back to looking at the Special Services to the School trophies.
Nikita's eyes shot open, as she heard someone enter the room. She could only see the back of the figure, and Nikita cocked her head to the side curiously. 'Who in the he..' Nikita thought angrily to herself. Then it struck her. 'The blonde hair! Oh my gosh! Zane Lestrange!' Nikita's mouth fell open, and she felt totally shocked. 'What the heck is he doing here? Shouldn't he be off studying, like good little boys?' Nikita thought angrily, once more. She put her head in her hands, and sighed. Like this day could get any worse. She lifted her head once more, and decided she should talk. She would hate to go unnoticed, now wouldn't she? "What are you doing here Zane?" Nikita asked Zane with no emotion showing in her question. It was just a simple question. She didn't say it angrily, nor happily. Why would she say it happily though? Zane was a traitor. A traitor to Kia, his mother, and all of the Slytherin DE members. 'He was suppose to be on our side! How can he just walk over to the NO, and be so goody goody? Especially after all his mother did. That is simply unacceptable behavior. One of these days he's going to realize that he made the wrong decision, but it's going to be too late.' Nikita thought frustratingly. She looked at Zane, who was now turned towards Nikita. She waited patiently for his response.

At the sound of her voice, Zane already knew the identity of the figure sat on the floor. He decided against his better judgement to turn around and face the girl. "Nice to see you to Nikita. I'm on a scenic detour, even though that's none of your business. Shouldn't you be in class?" He smiled as he said this. Of course the returning answer would be somewhere along the lines of, "Shouldn't you? That girl was a friend of Kia's and so with that relationship founded, Zane didn't really want to meet her alone in a deserted corridor. Not that he was scared of her, no of course not. She just simply had that air about her, a chilling presence if you will. It was the eyes that started it. One look and you'd be sucked in and dragged down with a sinking ship. I'd pity anyone who fell into that trap. He looked at her, she looked at him. Well you turned out nicely didn't you? The desendent of Severus Snape, the bravest man in recent history. I bet he's turning in his grave to see you undoing all his work.
Nikita raised her eyebrow at the silly Lestrange boy. "Why am I not in class? I couldn't even pay attention today in class, so why should I go to the rest of them? Plus, you shouldn't be the one asking me that question. I shall ask you the same question. Why are you not in class? Tired of being goody goody? Ready to come over to the DE?" Nikita smirked at Zane. Then continued, "Why are you even over on the NO's side? Why are you the Leader? Huh? You don't belong over there. You belong with us. You're a Lestrange for goodness sake! Are you seriously that stupid to be in the NO? You all will die, and you know it."
Nikita ended her speech, and looked at Zane with hurt eyes. She wastorn up by how he turned out. He was suppose to be like Kia. Evil. For some reason he turned out different though. Nikita tried to shake off her thoughts, as she stared into Zane's eyes. Nikita shook her head, utterly dissapointed in the boy standing in front of her. The Lestrange's boy. How dissapointed they must be in him.

"You're so predictable. I'm not in class because I received detention from your favourite teacher, again. And even if I hadn't got a detention, I wouldn't be in class, I have a free lesson this hour. You get those when you've grown up." He laughed at the next to question. I doubt that was really the response she was expecting. "Tired of being a goody goody, as you so put it. Of course not. I'd rather not, but thanks for the invitation." There I go again, I'll be surprised if this girl doesn't show some sort of shock at that. Well I'm just being polite, hey, that's one of the Lestrange family values. "I'm well aware that I am a Lestrange by birth but unfortunately I try not to associate with my ancestors." He shook his head and smiled before saying, "I'm not on the New Order's side. I am the New Order. This isn't a difficult choice for me. Of course we will die, and you also, for that is the natural conclusion to our lives. So sadly, that one doesn't count." He paused again looking at the girl. She looked distraught as if she really cared about his safety. "So you're trying to pursuade me to join the DE because...?" He waited for her reaction. Of course Zane knew that all the DE members hated his guts, well that was a side effect of having an organisation of enemies. "You look disappointed Nikita. Are you upset that I didn't turn out like the normal Lestrange stereotype like my sister did?"
Nikita cocked her head to the side, and began to speak. "Well, yeah! I'm very disappointed in you. I wish you would have turned out differently. Oh, well. I can't change it. Or can I?" Nikita questioned Zane curiously, hoping he would respond the way she would like him to. Her head was still cocked to the side, and her eyes were still tearing into his. She hadn't tore her eyes away from Zane's yet. She wasn't planning to release her eyes from his either. Well, not quite yet. She could tell it was bugging him, but not enough. She had to wait. Sooner or later he would tear his eyes away from her's, but that would be like surrendering. Nikita stood up from her spot, and took a step towards Zane. He wouldn't like that, but did she really care? Nikita was probably going to use her wand today, since she was already irritated. Zane would most likely make her even more irritable. She would be forced to use her wand. "I can't answer your other question though. Sorry." Nikita spoke with little sorrow in her voice. She wasn't sorry! How could Nikita be sorry? She can't. She looked deeper into Zane's eyes, waiting.

"Well I'm sorry to have been a disappointment to you. But no I don't think anything in the world would make me change my mind...except..." Zane trailed off so the last word of the sentence was barely audible. He maintained the eye contact, determined not to be the first to admit defeat. He watched carefully as the Slytherin stood up and took a step towards him. He thought about taking a step back to counteract the step forward, but decided against it. I'll just wait and see. He paused before saying, "I really want to know. Why do you want me to join the DE? When everyone else had made their feelings quite clear that they'd be glad to rid the world of me?"
Nikita thought about his question. Why did she want him to join the DE, and not die like all the others? "Well, I... I... You know what? Tell me what would change our mind, and I'll tell you why I want you to join the DE. I'll tell you everything. Well, nothing about the DE, but you know whatI mean. Tempting offer, huh?" Nikita smiledat Zane, and then quickly forced it to vanish. She sucked in a breath, and waited for him to respond. Hopefully the way she wanted him to respond. Nikita released her breath, trying to relax. "Please tell me." Nikita asked him, her eyes begging. Niki never begged before in her life, and she hoped it would work. She highly doubted it though.
Post by Zane Lestrange on Aug 5, 2009 22:52:24 GMT
"You're actually begging? Listen it's a really tempting offer but..." I do really want to know why she wants me to join the DE. Maybe she knows something's going to happen or I don't know. But why else would she offer? I can't tell her though, no, I can't tell anyone because then they'll exploit it, and they can't deny that they won't. And then I'll be stuck, with no choice except to join them, that's something I definitely don't want to do. I can't do it. I won't be like my family, sheesh I don't even count them as my family. Sirius didn't give in did he? He got through it and he was in the same situation as me. Was that a smile?!?!? He paused looking into her eyes, "thanks for the offer, but I can't tell you." Right decision, definitely the right decision. Mind you Charlotte or Kia could just break into my mind and find out... I'd best learn occlumency and fast.
Nikita's smile faded, and she clentched her jaw. She cleared her throat, and began to speak, "You don't think you can trust me can you? Well you can. I'm the only one that doesn't really want you to die here. Just tell me Zane. I'm not going to tell anyone." Nikita spoke her words with truth. She wasn't going to tell anyone. She never even planned on it. Nikita just wanted to know. She deserved to know. Especially for what all her father did for the Lestrange's. She deserved to know. Gosh dang it! She had to know! It was absolutely killing her. Nikita stared into his eyes, waiting patiently for him to reply. Nikita was eager to know what his response would be.

"You have to keep in mind that even if I was presented with this situation, I still have a choice, I could still remain with the New Order." Zane said quietly as he looked into her eyes. Gosh it really is killing her, she's desperate to know. Ok I'll tell her, maybe just part of it. That way I'll know whether she has told anyone because Kia would attack me with it straight away. "Okay...okay," he said trying to find the right words to describe his thoughts. "I might join the DE, if... if everyone turned against me and no longer believed that I was making the right decisions. If they treated me as if I had betrayed them, I wouldn't be able to stay. I'd feel guilty even though I was innocent. If they believed I was endangering lives then, I don't know what I'd do. Yes I'd leave but I doubt I'd join you. If I'm alone with no one else on my side, I'd still keep fighting. But if one of my friends was in danger," he paused, Victoire, Rosie, Teddy, Lily, "there's no question. I'd put my own life in danger to save theirs, that's how close we are." Of course I don't think the DE members understand the true meaning of friendship. He looked away from her gaze as he finished.
Nikita felt oddly guilty for making him tell her his secret. "Zane..." Nikita began but didn't finish her sentence. "I swear to you that I wont tell a soul about what you just told me. I don't know how I could allow myself to do so. Your secret is safe with me, Zane." Nikita stepped closer to Zane feeling the urge to hug him. He seemed so sad. Nikita wasn't sure if he was though. It just seemed that way. "Listen... I do know what you mean. If someone was about to kill Corliss, or... or Scorpius... I would definitely save them. I would try at least. Die trying, actually. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let one of them die. Just trust me Zane. You can trust me." Nikita smiled at Zane. A kind of smile she would give a friend. "I honestly have no idea whatsoever, why I treat you different. Like different from other NO members. I should treat you worse then I do them, but I don't for some reason." Nikita shrugged her shoulders as she spoke. Feeling clamer than she had before, Nikita let out a sigh of relief.

He listened closely as Nikita promised she wouldn't tell a soul. Well I hope for my sake she keeps to her word. I really hope so. He nodded in response before saying, "I guess it's just one of those things, you know? I don't know why I treat you differently from the others. It just happens, I can't explain it." He turned and walked towards the opposite trophy cabinet. There he saw the brilliant silver cup he had been presented with last year. The first year we won the House Quidditch Cup with me as captain. He looked through the other names engraved on the base of the cup: Zane Lestrange, Jake Emory, Valerie Jones, all the way back to Harry Potter, the legendary Oliver Wood and even the first James Potter. It's good to know you don't get forgotten. I'm there now, a part of Hogwarts history. Well I will be whether we resolve this dispute or not. Why can't I have a nice simple, uncomplicated life? Is that too much to ask? It had been a strange encounter to say the least. He had ended up sharing his most closely guarded secret with a member of the DE Inner Circle and he didn't regret it. Zane, you must be crazy.
Nikita smiled at Zane. Today had made a big turn around for her. She didn't smile all day long until Zane came along. Nikita shook her head and began laughing, for no reason at all. She was in a good mood now, and she felt like laughing. She knew Zane was going to look at her oddly, but she didn't care. Maybe he would even join in on the fun. Well, to Nikita this was fun. She laughed harder, and felt like she was about to collapse from lack of air. She finally caught a breath, and began to control herself once more. "Oh yeah! I was going to tell you why I want you to join the DE! I totally forgot about that. You still want to know?" Nikita asked Zane. She was still smiling at him, for some odd reason. She waited patiently, the smile notfading from her face.
