Light footsteps along the corridor heading towards the defence against the dark arts classroom. There was no question whether the student was late or not, but the emerald and silver colours of her tie ensured that she would not get into trouble. Kia had been in Herbology class when she had received a note from Professor Avero. Of course Kia had made her excuses to Professor Longbottom and made her way up to the fourth floor. It was a well known fact that Miss Kianthra Lestrange was the best in the school at non-verbal spells and also three other illegal spells, but of course, not many people knew that. Her blond hair curled naturally was down as usual but the girl was definitely not herself. After the incident on the stairs involving a certain blond haired Weasley, Kia had spent most of her time in the hospital wing, something she wasn't likely to forget in a hurry.
The small piece of parchment in her hand contained only a few words, written in emerald ink and neat writing:
Kia, Come to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom as soon as you receive this. Best regards, Professor Avero
It had been a strange letter, no details of what was to be happening, but of course that was to be expected. After all anyone could have read it in between Avero sending it and Kia receiving it. She folded the parchment and slipped it into her pocket. Her right hand was bandaged from the base of her fingers to half way down her arm, a little reminder of the stairs incident. Her hand had healed completely now thanks to the nurse's skills at healing, but she was still unable to put much pressure onto it. Of course, being left-handed, this didn't pose much of a problem.
Kia knocked lightly on the classroom door before entering. "You wanted to see me professor?" At the sound of her voice a wave of mixed reactions swept through the students. Some of her fellow Slytherins cheered, smiled and waved, whilst the Gryffindors didn't seem to happy at her arrival. Kia walked to the front of the class, the eyes of the other students watching, as Avero talked with her. She nodded as she received some special instructions for her ears only before Avero announced to the class, "Stop your work. I'm sure you've noticed Kianthra has joined us which means we are moving on to jinxes and hexes of the non-verbal kind. Of course some of you," his eyes lingered on the Gryffindors, "will not be able to cast any non-verbal spells as you are incapable of casting the simplest charm." He paused his eyes scanning the class observing the antics that had continued when he had his back turned. "Any volunteers?"
SLYTHERIN - Some are born evil, some achieve evil and some have evilness thrust upon them

Victoire did her best to escape notice as Kianthra entered the room, and Avero made his announcment. She flinched, internally, and let out a quick prayer, I didn't kill her, so please don't let her kill me. I think that's a fair enough trade. Sure, I spelled her down the stairs, but she entered by mind, and screwed with my memories. She sent a quick, hopeless look to James, hoping Lilly told him enough so that he'd understand her problem, and tried to shrink in her chair. Sure, she could have done it with a spell, but she had enough detention to worry about. I really don't wanna die. I'm too young to go to that big pond in the sky!

Corliss had noticed James and Weasley tossing a note about. She grinned smugly, knowing that would probably get another 10 to 15 points from Gryffindor. She nudged Niki and pointed toward the note as it landed on the Potter boy's desk. As soon as he had opened it, the Slytherin's hand shot up in the air, followed by Kia entering the room. Avero looked up at her. "Ah, Miss Malfoy. Please come up here." he said, thinking she was the volunteer. Corliss sighed, non verbal spells weren't her best subject, but she got up and made her way to the front of the room. "Sure, Professor." she said, smiling at Kianthra. "And hello to you Kia." she smiled. When she got to the front of the room, she stood beside her fellow DE. "Whats up with this? Your not going to jinx me are you?" she whispered, her lips hardly moving. She watched Avero explain the activity. Her lips curled up into an evil smirk. She shot a look at Vikki and then at James. 'Good luck.' she mouthed.

That was quick, I've never known Corliss be so keen. Ah, she wasn't volunteering. Well in any case, she's the person I want by my side for this special lesson. This will go exactly to plan, just as the last class did. If it does, maybe then we can move on to the more, complex, spells. At this Kia smiled to herself, the poor little NO members wouldn't know what had hit them. And even if they did, they could never place the blame on anyone. As Corliss reached the front Kia said, "Hello Cor," short and sweet.
Kia simply looked at Corliss, her eyebrows raised, with a look that said, and why would I jinx you? She glanced around the class, most of the students gathered had quickly averted their gaze, the remainder smiled in anticipation. She whispered the words, "wait a second," to Corliss alone before closing her eyes for a second. There was Corliss' mind, laid out like a book, but of course, all the DE members had learnt to defend their minds, even though none of them were occlumens. "Corliss, it's Kia." she paused waiting for the book to open, it did. "So here's the plan. We're both going to cast non-verbals on the volunteers in front of the class. Then when the volunteer heads back to their seat, you cast another, but this time, I'll be hiding all signs of the spell from their minds, using legilimency. It sounds complex but I know you're capable of casting great non-verbals when you set your mind to it." As she thought this, Kia looked around the class as if she was ignoring Corliss entirely. To all the other students it would look as if the two slytherins remained silent, listening carefully to the instructions.

Victoire snatched the note back, noting Corliss's keen eye. She tore the paper into bits, and shoved in into her shoe, making sure no one would find it. She frowned as she saw Kia's eye's close and knew that she and Corliss were sharing information. Frowning, Vikki mouthed the James, nervously, Don't volunteer. Just don't though she knew he wasn't even thinking about it. She was secretly glad that neither Ted nor Rose showed up. Kianthra would find a way to force them to volunteer, maybe by suggesting it to Avero, or something. She shuddered, wondering who the poor sap was who was about to volunteer.
Nikita watched as Kia entered the room. A smile struck upon her face, and she moved her eyes to Corliss. She watched as she walked to the front of the room. Then She remembered that Corliss had nudged her. Her eyes shot over towards Victoire, and James. She watched Victoire with big eyes, without Victoire taking any notice to her whatsoever. She watched as Victoire shoved the note inside her shoe. She raised her eyebrow, and thought up a plan to expose Victoire's 'naughtiness'. Then her eyes flickered back up to Avero, and she agreed that it would be better not to interrupt him. She listened intently to his instructions, as she smiled at Corliss. She waited patiently for something exciting to happen.

"Come on we need volunteers. If someone doesn't volunteer, I'll start picking on people," Avero was getting more annoyed by the second, his fingers tapping on the desk waiting for someone, anyone to volunteer. Of course he was secretly hoping that no one would volunteer and then he could pick on the people who had disturbed his lesson. He smirked slightly as the silence continued, "still no one?" He paused before continuing, "fine then, let's see...who's going to be the Chosen One today?" He smiled to himself after his little joke. Sweeping the classroom his eyes landed on James. "POTTER, here now!" he shouted causing the whole class to jump about a foot in the air. Now this was going to be interesting, very interesting indeed.
Kia smiled at Corliss as James was called to the front. Oh what a surprise, he's picked Potter. How very, predictable. Avero had told Kia who to target but not in a particular order, it looked like Potter's number was up.

James watched Kia enter the classroom and glared at her daggars in his eyes. He watched as Avero waited for volunteers and saw Corliss go up and then looked round to Victoire seeing her mouth her message and he gave her a look which meant "do you think I was planning on" He knew when Avero said about himself picking students that he was sure to be picked because Avero hated him just as his father had hated Snape. He then caught the 'joke' and knew for sure that he was going to be targeted and scowled when his name was mentioned.
He got up slowly and walked forwards facing Kia and closed his eyes closing his mind to her firmly making sure that it would not open at all. He held his wand tightly ready to cast a non-verbal shield charm. Even though Avero thought he wasn't, James was quite good at non-verbal spells.

A smile, that could only be classified as evil, crossed over the girl's lips as she heard the plan. She knew Potter and Weasley would be Avero's main targets and wasn't surprised when he called on James fist. She smiled sweetly at James. "Well, hello." she said, pulling out her wand. 'His mind is protected.' she thought, casting a strong shield around her. 'I would suggest you cast one too, just to be safe. Which spell will we be using?' she thought, looking ever so slightly sideways at her friend. "When shall we begin, Professor?" she asked, holding her wand a bit tighter. 'Be warned, he is good at this kind of thing.'
