"Believe me, I won't blame you for anything at my own funeral Elle, I promise." He smiled at her, the teasing tone still in his voice.
It took him a moment to realise that she'd actually got up and was heading to the castle. I don't fucking think so. He thought to himself as he shoved himself up off the ground to follow her. He almost laughed as she started running, as if he couldn't catch her. He didn't have his wand on him at that moment, and so was left with either, letting her do it but insisting on heading back to the common room to grab his wand, or tackle her to the ground and keep her there until she saw reason.
He sprinted after her, as he ran up behind her, his arms snaked around her waist, pulling her against him as he rolled to the ground. He swiftly maneuvered Ellie so his knees were at either side of her hips and her wrists were locked in his grip as he held them above her head. "Don't be so stupid Elle." He understood the want to do something even more once you'd been told you couldn't, which is why he rarely told her not to do something, more like distracted her, but this was just ridiculous. "You're not jumping off the fucking astronomy tower."

She was making good time on her way to the castle. Scrawny as she was, the girl's body was laced through with thin, wiry muscles that were quite helpful in situations like this one, where running was necessary. Her legs pumped like efficient machines, only stumbling a few times, as was completely normal with her.
The moment he tackled her, however, she knew she'd lost the fight, but it wasn't Ellie's style to give up easily, even if she knew she was fighting a losing battle. So, as her back hit solid groud, driving the wind out of her, and Louis blocked out the sun above her, she simply grinned and joked with him. "Oh come ON, Lou. When's the last time you've just DONE something, without thinking about it?"
It was something Ellie did often, and the rest of the world didn't do enough, in her opinion. Everone was so caught up in the war, and being a perfect and flawless as they could possibly be. Or at least, conveying to ther people their perfect self. But that disgusted her. People thought they would live forever, but they just WOULDN'T. And Ellie knew that. So she didn't waste a day.
"What if we die today?" she asked him, an eager tone in her voice. "What we do isn't gonna matter shit. So why not have a little fun?"
Sure, most people's definition of fun wasn't jumping off of high places, where death was a potential and very probable outcome. But Ellie didn't think about things. And to her, that seemed like the funnest thing in the world right then.

He rolled his eyes as she spoke, "That's not what we're talking about Elle, and you know it, there's a HUGE difference between just being spontaneous and doing something on the spur of the moment and throwing yourself off a tower to your very probable death." His voice sounded exasperated, he felt like they'd had this conversation before.
"If we die today then it wouldn't fucking matter if you got to jump off that sodding tower either." His grip around her wrists tightened a little, "It's not just a little fun though is it? It's sheer stupidity, and I know you're not really that god damn stupid Elle." He paused and took a deep breath before looking directly into her eyes.
"So what happens if I just turn round and say, 'sure, go for it, jump' and you do, and nobody is there to catch you? What happens if you fucking die Elle? You think I could live knowing I'd stopped it? I get the whole living in the moment. Really, I do. But don't tempt death, there's too much shit going on around here that's doing that as it is!" His frustration and anger were clearly evident in his relatively calm voice by his use of swear words. He rarely swore, only doing so when he felt strongly about something.

The girl dropped her pipe on the ground near her left hand. She'd been carrying it while she ran, so as not to choke on it. And now, the burning tabacco was burning at her hand.
"I'm not gonna fucking kill myself. Will you get that through that thick head of yours?" She wasn't angry with him, no. Just slightly amused that he was so worried about her. "Jumping into a giant, conjured trampoline sound safe enough to you? Eh, Lou?"
She let out a bark of raspy laughter when he told her she was being stupid. "I don't give a shit if I'm being stupid," she told him, grinning her pearly white teeth in his face. "I'd settle for being the stupidest person in the world, if I could just live without people telling me to do life differently."
At his next comment, she flared up a tad. It wasn't that she was angry with him. No, her temper rarely flared, even with her friends. She was just frustrated that he couldn't see what was right in front of his face. "If I die today, then I fucking die today, okay? It's not my choice when it's gonna happen. But it's gonna happen eventually. Fate'll decide. Not me. Until then, I'd like to live my life like I die tomorrow, thank you very much Preacher Boy."

"You bloody well might! And how exactly do you plan on conjuring this amazing trampoline? Last time I checked you weren't exactly great and conjuring something from nothing Elle." He sighed, he wasn't angry at her really, just her stupid idea.
"Well tough shit Ellie, life isn't easy, you can't just run around doing anything you fucking want! There will always be people telling you to do things differently, and occasionally one of them is going to be me. I know you hate it, I know you think you can waltz through life just being yourself. For the most part you probably could, in here. But out there, in the real world Elle, out there you can't just live from one moment to the next, that's not how it works. There's a war coming, and it scares the shit out of me, but it doesn't seem to bother you at all, as if it doesn't affect you. Well here's a wake up call, it does! You're a witch, you're part of this world, no matter what you do when you leave this school, you always will be part of this world." He was venting now, all of his frustrations were coming to a head and were unfortunately all being aimed at Ellie, Louis wished he could stop, wished he could just shut his mouth but he couldn't.
"For fuck's sake Ellie! You really are just out to tempt fate, aren't you?!" He took a deep breath trying to reign himself in. "Fate doesn't exist. There's no such thing as fate. You have free will, we all do. And you can decide not to be stupid and reckless! You can decide today isn't the day. We all die, and not all of us will die form old age, but it's because of fate! It's because someone else decided it. So try, for once, to think about things. This idea is ridiculous. It will end in your death. And I'm sorry but I can't just stand there and watch. I can't." He closed his eyes, moving both of her wrists into one of his hands as he ran a hand through his hair, his muscles in his jaw and neck were tight, strained, as if he was biting back a torrent of words, which in all actuality he was.

Okay, so now she was pretty mad. His words were like a slap in the face, or a dousing of icy cold water. Her rarely present temper had snapped, and now he was in for it.
Her wand was still in her hand. A dangerous thing for Louis, as he'd started this little skirmish. Normally, she wasn't terribly good with her wand. But when she got angry, all of that livid energy surged into the wooden stick and gave her ten times as much power with it. "Get the hell off me!" she snarled at him, jabbing her wand in his direction. Immediately, there was a bang, and he was sent flying off of the girl.
She scrambled to her feet.
"Just fuck off, Weasley!" she growled at the boy, her raspy voice filled with an angry kind of vibe. He had to be such a bloody jackass sometimes. At moments, she didn't even know what he was her friend. Well, mostly when she was angry at him. "No one asked for your bloody opinion. I'll do what I fucking want, and you don't get a say in it."
The next moment, she was ranting off about free will. Something she'd always relished beyond any other gift life had given her. "Yeah, I DO have free will. And I'm choosing NOT to spend my life sitting around being told what to do by assholes who don't give a fuck about me."

As his back slammed into the ground and the air whooshed out of his body Louis came back to himself, his anger was dissipating quickly, his head shooting up as Ellie told him to 'fuck off'. He scrambled back to his feet and stared at her as she ranted at him. He knew he'd been a complete jerk, but he wasn't really worried about that right now, he just really didn't want her to follow though on her idea.
"Elle, look, I'm sorry for yelling, I'm not actually pissed off with you, but please just...don't." He started moving slowly towards her, his face as apologetic as his voice. "You know I wouldn't have gone off like that if I didn't give a fuck about you, I just want to try and keep you safe, which by the way you occasionally make it bloody difficult." He sighed, another hand through his hair before he fixed his blue eyed gaze on her. "Please Ellie, you're like a little sister to me."

She still wasn't seeing clearly, so angry as she was. It was like a veil of anger was clouding her vision. She wasn't thinking straight enough to breathe efficiently, let alone think about how her words might affect the boy in front of her. Breath came in short, heavy gasps.
But the veil was fading. The girl had a very dynamic temper. One moment she was angry, she next moment she wasn't. The next, she was throwing things. It could cool down in an instant or heat up in the same amount of time. Now, it was more of the cooling.
She put her pipe back in her mouth for a moment. The girl had grabbed it before she'd stood up. The chunk of wood had a peaceful effect on her, and could cool her down when she was feeling as if she was about to blow a gasket. To someone who knew her well, like Louis did, she was about to make a deal.
Because that's how she was. She couldn't leave a fight by being the bigger man and saying she was sorry. No, she was childish in that way. Instead, she made a deal with whomever she was fighting about, to stop the fight. If they refused, then it was curtains for their relationship with her until they agreed or worked something else out.
"Fine. For now, I won't," she muttered, agreeing dolefully to his proposition. "But promise me something." She paused for a moment, her brain working to crank out the perfect question. "Next year. You'll spot me when I do it."

He stood waiting, unsure of how she was going to react initially. Then as he saw the curtain of anger lift from her eyes, he knew she was calming down, a thought which was almost if not even more frightening than the small girls anger. He understood how this was going to go, she was going to make him an offer to end this argument, this foray, and if he accepted it everything would be fine.
If he didn't however she would turn form him. She wouldn't betray him but she wouldn't be his Ellie until he gave in. That was how things were with her. You did things her way or not at all. There was no middle ground, not really. Yes, he'd managed to compromise with her occasionally about these things, but never that often. So he waited with baited breath to hear what she would offer.
"Next year." He nodded, but he knew better than just to leave it at that, "Next year, on my final day in this castle, then I'll spot you when you do it." He paused for a moment, making sure he meant his next words. "I promise." His voice was solemn, he didn't like the agreement, but he knew she wouldn't bend on this one, and he wouldn't win a fight right now. So he gave in, much like he always did when it came to Ellie.

She wasn't happy that he'd made it so fucking long before she could even jump off the building, but she couldn't fight with him. She just couldn't. She felt guilt in the pit of her stomach when she looked at his face, so eager to stop this weird fight they were having.
They never fought. It just wasn't like them to do something like that. Their talks tended to be easy and light-hearted. Breezy in the bubbliest sense of the word. She LIKED talking to him, because she didn't even have to think. That's how easy it was. She just let the words flow out of her mouth. Because she really did enjoy the boy's company, even if she was a total bitch to him on the rare occasion. Like now.
"Pinky swear?" she asked, completely and totally joking, but offering the pinky of her left hand all the same. Normally, deals were made with the right hand, but Ellie didn't like to follow the norm, if you hadn't already guessed. Besides, she was left-handed, and preferred to do things with that hand, rather than her other one. Ambedextrous was something she wasn't.
"Pinky swear." He finally smiled, stepping up to her and linking his left pinky with hers. When he stepped back he was a lot happier, their fight was over. It was like a weight lifted off of him, and his eyes shone again with his smile. He hated it when they fought. It just wasn't who they were as friends, or who he was as a person. He didn't fight, not really.
He sighed as he looked up at the castle, not really wanting to go back inside, so he flopped back onto the grass, his head hitting the ground with a soft thud. "So, now that's all out the way, and you've temporarily seen sense, or I've temporarily gone crazy, I'm not sure which, what do you want to do?" He looked at her, his head tilted a little to one side.

Her pinky interlocked with his for a moment and she flashed him that winning smile of hers, complete with the dimples.
She was altogether a cute person, even one wouldn't really think that about her on instict. But the little things she did, the quirks the had and the way she said things all added up to her being slightly adorable. Although she probably wouldn't like hearing that.
At his next question, she rolled her eyes playfully, thinking back to what their whole fight had been about. And as she did, she noticed that the sun was beginning to make its decent upon the castle and surrounding grounds, setting everything in a pretty, rosy lighting.
The girl jerked her head towards the castle. "C'mon, let's get something to eat," she suggested lightly, linking arms with him and starting towards the castle. "I, for one, am starving. Believe me, being tackled by you is no easy feat, big guy."
Sighing as he stood up and had his arm linked with hers Louis nodded, "Food sounds like a good idea actually." He conceded, because as much as he didn't want to be inside he was hungry. He'd exerted far too much energy without eating enough, for starters he'd missed lunch but had gone on a run regardless, then he'd ended up tackling one of his best friends.
"Tackling you isn't easy either you know, you can run, and wriggle." He laughed nudging Ellie's hip with his own gently as they started to walk towards the castle. He glanced back over towards the lake and smiled at the colours flitting across the waters surface as the sun fell behind the horizon. It was a beautiful sight, and he often sat outside watching it, some may think it was girly, but what's wrong with appreciating nature? In Louis eyes, nothing.

Her stomach was beginning to growl. She hadn't eaten anything all day, other than the mushroom omlette she'd had with toast that morning, and as the sun was beginning to set, it had been a while since her empty, monster of a stomach had been full.
The girl shoved her pipe back in her pocket, having quenched her desire for a smoke a while back, and had been conscience since then of the fact that Louis hated every moment of her smoking. "Food sounds like a million dollars right now," she agreed, grinning her cheeky, real little grin.
"You make me sound like hell and a biscuit, Lou," she laughed, knowing it might take him a tad to figure out that one. Her analogies and such never really made much sense, and she never really tried to make them do such. She never cared about much anyways.
The Gryffie nudged his hip back with her own, olive eyes taking in the gorgeous sunset across the horizon. She squirmed internally at the girliness of such an action, but eventually pushed it out of her mind. There were exceptions for things such things.
"I wouldn't quite say a million dollars, but it sure sounds like a good idea to me." Louis laughed, unable to help it as he glanced at her cheeky grin. She really did make him smile. Even so soon after an argument they were back to normal. It was kind of surreal.
"That's because you are hell and a biscuit Elle!" He laughed, even though it made no sense to his slightly tired brain it was the best thing he could come up with, geez did he need food and soon! He watched her look at the sunset and smiled. "Aren't sunsets a little girly for you Ellie?" He teased with a smirk, for a girl who was so against anything classed as being typically 'girly' she sure did some girly things occasionally.
