"I know, I know, you want meet to stop going flying in the evening, right? I'm not going to be attacked on the way back from Quidditch or on the way there for that matter. But I see that the only way you will let me keep practicing is to have some other people with me." He sighed and then said,"I don't think the team would be too keen on the idea. This would be so much easier if you were on the team as well Teddy, because then we could all go and practice at the same time. Rosie and you would be happy because there would be three of us and I would be happy because I would still get to practice Quidditch.". He dug into the apple pie whilst listening to Teddy. He nodded at the appropriate points still mulling over the dilema as well as the apple pie.
"I know, but we've known that for a while. We won't be the ones starting a war though...if we keep practicing then we could probably match their standard. Ok admittedly, Charlotte, Scorpius and Kianthra seem unbeatable, but the rest of them aren't the best spell casters. What I'm worried about is the amount of support they are getting from the teachers, I mean, do we even have any teach who even know about our group or actively participate? No. They've got the entire school under their thumb. Maybe if we...ok I admit it we haven't got much hope."
Rosie exchanged a glance with Teddy at Zane's mention of him joining the team. As they had just discussed this not twenty minutes earlier, it was a bit of a coincidence that Zane should bring it up now. Rosie chortled softly into her pie as she took another bite. How weird coincidences were.
"What about Professor Longbottom?" Rosie asked, referring to their lively, stout Herbology teacher, whom her relatives had been good friends with in their previous years at school. In fact, if she remembered correctly, her Aunt Ginny had gone to a ball with him in her early years at the school. The Yule Ball, if she wasn't mistaken. The one that'd taken place during the Triwizard Tournament. "He is, after all, a friend of my parents. I'm sure he'd love to help us out. Granted, he's not the best at spells, but perhaps he could give us some gigantic man-eating plants to chuck at the DE."

"True, I forgot about him. He's not bad at spells, he's brave, after all he killed Voldemort's snake didn't he? So if we count Professor Longbottom, that's one teacher against the rest of them. Even with man-eating plants, the odds are still against us." He pondered this for a short time while he finished his apple pie. He stacked his plates and had another sip of pumpkin juice.
He looked around the hall to check up on the whereabouts of his sister. No where to be seen. Scorpius and Charlotte weren't there either. "The mean team have disappeared," he said quietly to Rosie and Teddy. "They're obviously moving around in a pack now. Well, nevermind...I'm sure they've gone to their common room." He stood up and grabbed his firebolt from where it had been resting under the bench. "Right I'm off to Quidditch now, I'll see you two tomorrow morning." He smiled as he rescued the snitch from under the upturned goblet, which had prevented it from escaping.
As Teddy and Rosie shared a glance, Teddy raised his eyebrow. Maybe this 'becoming a beater thing' was becoming more realistic then he thought. He chuckled slightly as took another mouthful of his apple pie, listening to Rosie's and Zane's conversation about Professor Longbottom. He and Ted, to least say, had a bit of a rough start, especially with Ted's uninterested in Herbology. But they have seemed to have gotten past this now, and Professor Longbottom had become one of the teachers Teddy admired. What a change.
He chuckled as he followed Zane's watch, shaking his head at the reference of mean team. "Zane, really, wait. We should come with you, you know, just in case." Teddy said through a mouthful of apple pie. He looked over at Rosie, expecting a beating from her for talking with food in his mouth. He was terrible for it.
As Rosie thought about it, she found that she still had a hard time believing Professor Longbottom and Zane ever got to be friends. Zane, after all, was the decendents of Longbottom's worst enemy, Bellatrix Lestrange, who had tortured his parents into insanity for information on the original Order of the Phoenix. Such a strange concept, now that she thought about it. She couldn't possibly picture Zane ever being as evil as his mother. Though she'd never met the woman, she'd heard plenty of nasty stories about her, including the one her grandmother liked to tell, of the day she finally died.
Instead of a beating, Rosie simply gave Teddy a 'you know better than that' look, before eating a hasty bite of her mashed potatoes and swallowing quickly. After thoroughly wiping her mouth with a cloth napkin, she began to speak. "Y'know, it'd probably be for the better if we came with you. The Terror Trio isn't gonna stand by and watch pleasantly as you practice Quidditch. Not if they get the chance."

"They've already had the chance," Zane mumbled so neither of them could hear whilst holding the snitch by its small golden wings. His relationship with Professor Longbottom didn't get off to a good start, well what would you expect if you're suddenly teaching the children whose parents tortured yours into insanity. Luckily, it was Zane who met Professor Longbottom first, he might have had a bit of a shock if he had met Kianthra first. Things soon improved when Zane talked about defence against the dark arts, Neville was happy to remember what he now called "the Good Old Days" of Dumbledore's Army.
He threw the snitch up into the air and caught it again before looking up at Teddy and Rosie. "Ok, I think that's a good idea, how about I meet you down there in five minutes?" He wanted to warm up before they arrived, if he waited for them he would miss valuable practise time.
Rosie narrowed her eyes slightly as Zane mumbled something under her breath. Taking a small bite of vegetables, she smiled, knowing he had forgotten about her impecible hearing. Of course, his words were still unclear in meaning, even if she could decipher what they were pretty well. If those monsters had already had a chance to attack him, then why wasn't he dead? Surely, they would have gone all out on such an easy target. They were, after all, Death Eaters, and never passed up a chance to practice their Unforgivables on the wary passerby.
She watched the fluttering gold form of the Snitch as he tossed it up in the air. Snitches had always fascinated her, as well as the people who were fast and keen enough to catch them. After her uncle had showed her how, she'd always wanted to have that ability. "Sounds like a plan," she replied, still thinking over what he'd said, turning to Teddy in an attempt to see if he agreed, "Ted?"
"Of course I agree. Actually Zane, there was something I'd like to ask you." Teddy said, looking to Rosie for some support. "Well, I haven't been on a broom since the summer, but if that Beater position is still open..." Teddy said, trying to hint what he was trying to ask. His Silver arrow was up in his room, he had done some flying over the summer with his cousins and such, but he was probably a little rusty since then.
He followed Rosie's actions and finished whatever was on his plate and took a giant gulp of his juice before both plate and cup disappeared. He rested his elbows on the table, his chin resting in his hands. He looked over at her plate of food, which was almost finished, and took one of the steamed baby carrot's from the plate and popped it into his mouth, his famous smile grew across his lips.

"Sure I was going to hold try-outs next week but I'll give you a trial tonight." he smiled, it would be great to have Teddy on the team. "Well I'll go and find a bludger, see you in five minutes" He walked out of the great hall and headed towards the broom shed. It was true, he hadn't stepped in here for years, after all why would he need to use one of the school brooms when he had a firebolt. No one ever used the school brooms apart from the first years just learning to fly. No wonder, the brooms either flew slightly to the left, slowed down when heading north or refused to fly altogether. It was one good reason to ask your parents to get you a broom, even if it was second hand, anything would be better than the flying bundle of twigs.
He grabbed the box and headed down to the pitch. The gravelled path crunching under his feet as he opened the gates with one hand. Setting the box down, he jumped on his firebolt and soared around the edge of the stadium, hoping to get several laps in before Rosie and Teddy arrived.

James was dressed in his Quidditch robes. He slung his firebolt over his shoulder and walked to the pitch. He was bored and stressed and knew that a few hours of hard training would calm him down. He looked up as he got there and saw someone doing laps. He walked onto the pitch and saw it was Zane. He smiled and mounted his broom and kicked off to join him "late night training too Zane?" he said smiling zooming round the goalposts.

Zane saw James approaching and said, "why of course. Where else did you expect your crazy-crumpet-loving Quidditch Captain to be?" He spiraled through the air and then corkscrewed towards the ground, pulling up at the latest possible moment so that the broom was skimming the grass. The snitch grasped in his hand. He released the snitch and waited for a minute before chasing it. Round the goalposts and round the stands, within a minute the snitch had been recaptured. If only it was this easy in a match.
He landed next to the crate. Here James, catch!" he shouted as he opened the box. There was the quaffle, bright red in colour. Zane took it out of the box and threw it up to James. Zane's attention turned back to the box where the two bludgers were trying to free themselves from the straps. He checked that the straps were secure, we don't want you causing an injury do we? Zane got back onto the broom and headed up to where James was flying. "Teddy and Rosie should be down soon. I'm going to trial Teddy for the open beater position." he smiled as he dived to the ground again and returned back to where James was, with the snitch fluttering in his hand.

James laughed at Zane's obsession with crumpets and caught the quaffle. He then flew to the goalposts and started to practice throwing them through the hoops. "Teddy as Beater that would be cool" he said smiling. "He is a really good flyer. We play two a side quidditch at home sometimes 3 a side when we can convince mum and dad to play." he smiled and carried on training.
Teddy grinned as he watched Zane speed off to the pitch, he shook his head as he looked back at Rose. "Well well, I'm going to have to pull out the old Silver Arrow now aren't I?" he chuckled as they stood, heading back towards the Gryffindor common room to gather some things, hopefully Zane wouldn't find himself in too much trouble as they gathered there things. Once the two of the pasted through the portrait, Teddy ran up into his room, abusing Accio to gather things he couldn't find and quickly changed from his school robes into the robes he used in the summer around the Potter's house for little quick games of Qudditch, where his Godfather would always triumphant a little too early.
Teddy and Rose made it back downstairs in no time flat, running towards the pitch, or at least Teddy was running. He was over thrilled to be considered for the team. Especially beater. It was after all his favorite position. He was kinda rotted he only chose this year to try out, but it never spurred an interest until this year. Wonder why that is. He pushed the thought away because they were already almost on the pitch.
He watched as his friend flew about the pitch, doing all sorts of turns and dives after a flicker of gold. He'd never be able to be a Seeker, that Snitch flew too quickly for his liking. He saw another figure in the air, his 'cousin' James was also there, flying about. He smiled and looked back to see if Rosie had followed him in or not.

James threw the quaffle at the goalposts and scored again. He flew to grab it before it dropped to the ground and ended up doing a nose dive and coming out of it just before he crashed with the quaffle in his hand. He saw Teddy and smiled "Hey Ted!" he shouted through the wind "come to keep us safe have you?" he smiled and landed beside Teddy. "Just the person for the beater job."

Zane soared around the goal posts before spiraling around them to grab the snitch in his left hand. He let it go again and waited for a minute before chasing after it, diving under James's broom before answering his question, "So you've seen him play? What's he like as a Quidditch Player?" Zane shifted his weight to the left slightly which resulted him in curving to the left whilst heading down towards the rapidly approaching ground. He caught sight of Teddy but he was still quite a way off yet.
And there it was again, a glimmer of gold at the opposite end of the pitch. Zane leaned forward slightly as the firebolt whistled through the air weaving in and out of the goal posts after the snitch. He held the snitch in his hand once more as he heard Teddy's shout. It seemed Teddy had arrived and unfortunately for him he was looking back towards the castle, obviously looking for Rosie. Zane smiled as he caught sight of the snitch hovering just above Teddy's head.
Zane went into a steep dive heading straight for Teddy. He slowed down at the last minute and hopped off his broom to stand next to Teddy. "Hey Teddy he said as his grabbed the snitch from above Teddy's head. "Where's Rosie?"
